Part 10 of 10
As we conclude our study of the New Covenant, and all that pertains to it, the following quote becomes especially significant: "Beware that you do not lose the substance by grasping at the shadow" (Aesop).
The sum of our study can be found in the following verse: "And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make ALL things new" (Rev 21:5).
Church history has proven the fact that human nature likes to revel in old wineskins. For the most part, the old has been good enough. Men naturally resist the emergence of the new, even if it is far superior. But I want to encourage us to press into and seek the substance of the shadow. Why cling to the mere shadows when the substance beckons us onward?
Friends, let's wholeheartedly partake of this New and better covenant! The precious blood of Jesus has thoroughly effected it for us! Concerning this covenant, Jesus' advice is to "drink ye ALL of it" (Matt 26:27).
As we fully partake of these precious covenantal benefits, the Bible tells us that we'll become a NEW Creature (Gal 6:15), a NEW man (Eph 4:24), pressing into a NEW priesthood (Heb 6:19-20; 7:12), by a NEW birth (1 Pet 1:23). We'll offer NEW sacrifices, have a NEW temple (Eph 2:19-22), and celebrate NEW feastdays (1 Cor 5:7). We'll put on a NEW garment (Matt 9:16; Rev 19:8), and a NEW wineskin (Prov 3:10; Matt 9:17). We'll begin to speak with NEW tongues (Acts 2:1-4; Mk 16:17), and we'll have a NEW sabbath rest (Mk 2:27)! We'll partake of NEW commandments (Jn 13:34; 2 Jn 5), walk upon a NEW way (Heb 10:20), with a NEW name (Rev 2:17; Isa 62:2), and a NEW song (Rev 5:9). We'll have a NEW heart (Ezek 18:31), a NEW spirit (Ezek 11:19), and NEW mercies (Lam 3:23). We'll have a NEW Jerusalem (Rev 3:12; 21:2), a NEW testament (Matt 26:28), and a NEW Covenant (Heb 8:8; 12:24)! And we'll soon find ourselves in the NEW Heaven and earth (2 Pet 3:18; Rev 21:2; Isa 65:17)! Don't you want to partake of such glorious New Covenantal benefits? I sure do!
"Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare" (Isa 42:9)!
"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?" (Isa 43:19).
The End..
